ZORAH’s first ever wine, “karasì” is made with the indigenous Areni grape variety, from ungrafted vines at 1.400 meters above sea level. Unique to Armenia Areni is considered one of the oldest grape varieties in the world. Fermented naturally in rough concrete vats and aged for long periods in traditional amphorae, hence the name “karasì” meaning ‘from amphorae’. The aging is done for 1 year in traditional Armenian amphorae, after which the aging continues for 6 months in bottles before leaving the winery.
Light, briljant purple in the glass, this wine smells of smoky mulberry and cassis. In the mouth, the wine has a wonderfully bright cassis and Beaujolais-like grapey quality backed by a fantastic wet campfire-woodsmoke flavor that is quite arresting. Excellent acidity makes the wine juicy and quite easy to drink and powerdery tannins lend substance to the bright fruit.
